Heigh-Ho-The-Derry-Oh,………… I Like To Go To School
So I’m taking film classes, as some of you know. It’s really good actually.
I take Film History, which can be somewhat boring (D.W. Griffith) and interesting (Chaplin), Screenwriting, which is very interesting, and Film/Video, when i actually make stuff.
Speaking of the last one, I thought you’d like to see my first project: “6 Shots”. As in, i had to take 6 shots (I actually did 7, ha ha) and that’s about it really. It was just to see if I could work the focus, f-stop, light meter etc. on a real film camera (a Bolex, if anyone’s interested). I warn you that for this media file, it was filmed with video, off a wall it was projected on, so the quality is bad.
It’s shot on the roof of my condo building in St Paul. The skyline in the background is Minneapolis. It’s short too, and there’s a very good explanation for that; it cost $30 for a 100ft reel (about 3 minutes worth) of black and white film, and another $30 to process it. Thank God my actors worked for free.
My next one cost 90 bucks, was filmed over two reels, and looked shit when I finally edited it, so I’ll probably have to re-shoot.
Still, I’m told I’m a good student.
(NB: The girl with the beer is my cool classmate Rachel, and the other is a friend of a friend called Arri, who listened to every word i said despite the fact she’d just met me.)
